Jazz Roots Track Levels

The Jazz Roots Track offers five levels, from open to highly advanced.

All levels provide material designed to help you progress as a dancer. Please read the descriptions carefully to choose the level that best matches your experience.

If you wish to change your level after registration, please let us know via email, and we will make the adjustment.

BEGINNER LEVEL

You have never practiced solo jazz before, or you are completely new to this dance style. You may have some experience in Lindy Hop or other swing dances.

Intermediate Level

You are familiar with the basics of solo jazz and have attended a few workshops or regular classes (from September 2025 or earlier). You know the basic structure of classic routines such as: Shim Sham, Big Apple, Tranky-Doo.

INTER-ADVANCED LEVEL

You are comfortable dancing classic routines such as the Shim Sham, the basics of the Tranky-Doo, and the Big Apple. You are familiar with fundamental authentic jazz steps, including: Shorty George, Suzie Q, Apple Jacks, 1920s Charleston

You are beginning to explore improvisation and feel increasingly confident dancing on your own.

ADVANCED LEVEL

You know classic routines very well and have no trouble learning and remembering new ones.

You learn quickly and are open to working on more demanding technical elements, including: jumps, slides, and turns, complex rhythm variations (such as Over the Top and Trenchies)

You feel confident improvising and can comfortably dance solo during jams. You have experience performing in front of an audience and may also teach in your local dance scene.

MASTER LEVEL (Application required)

You are a highly experienced and versatile solo jazz dancer, and dance plays a central role in your life. You currently teach or have previously taught solo jazz, and you are seeking an advanced artistic and technical challenge.

Please note:
Registration for the Master level is subject to approval.

To apply, please send an email to hello@jazzroots.fr with the subject line “MASTER Level”, including:

  • a short explanation of your experience and motivation, and

  • a video link to a recent performance or competition.

This process helps us ensure that all participants benefit from a stimulating, coherent, and balanced learning environment.
